Prior to watching this film, I had never heard of the Von Erichs, though I did have a bit of knowledge about wrestling as I used to be quite a fan as a kid. Going into this film I also really didn't have any expectations. I thought that it could be a 7 / 10 at best. But this film certainly proved me wrong. The story is sorrowful but also so well acted out that you can't help but see the beauty of it. The film is notably well-written, and watching the ups and downs of the family unfold is so sad yet so exciting.
A big part of this experience should be attributed to Zac Efron who plays Kevin Von Erich. I wasn't sure what to think initially as I had only seen him in comedy films before, but he undoubtedly does a fantastic job in this serious role. Watching him throughout this film is just terrific and I believe it truly shows the skill of Zac Efron's acting. It is also worth mentioning that Zac Efron wasn't the only one with great acting, as the rest of the family starring actors like Jeremy Allen White and Holt McCallany among others, really create a great atmosphere between the family.
The part that stands out though is the ending. It is so well acted out that it brought a tear to my eye and I would undoubtedly recommend this movie to anyone thinking about watching it, wrestling fan or not.
