"In many ways the profession of critic is an easy one: we risk very little while taking advantage of the great power we have over those who submit their work to our judgment; we thrive on negative reviews that are fun to write, and to read. But the The sad reality to which we must resign ourselves is that in the grand scheme of things even the most mediocre work has much more soul than our judgment that defines it as such. But there are occasions in which a critic really risks something: for example in discovering and defending the new". With this sentence in mind I really don't know what else to say about a practically perfect episode, perhaps the best ever! Phenomenal and, as a Tolkenian democratic, open to change and novelties and not conservative and bigoted as, alas, too many are, I found the idea behind the origins of mithril beautiful: philosophical, poetic and very captivating (I have always had a weakness for the balrogs)!!! I continue to be convinced that the narrative arc of Elrond and Durin IV is the most beautiful, but fortunately the various stories, at least the majority, will inevitably converge to the south...
I think, at the moment, the lowest point of the season, only the events in Khazad-Dum lift the fortunes of a bland episode without any major narrative thrust: the island of Numenor is rapidly turning into a prison for combative Galadriel and the (not surprisingly) diplomatic Halbrand. The obsessive attention to every single detail or prop is always incredible, and sometimes you almost forget you're watching a fictional product, given the realism and attention to the smallest scene details, but this time it's not enough. After over 1900 years a new war is upon us and everyone, apart from (some) inhabitants of the southern lands, seem to not care, reveling in their indolence... and inevitably one of them is the enemy in disguise...
"Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow.,
Bright Blue his jacket Is,
and his boots are yellow."
I would never have imagined a more unexpected episode! We have now reached the goal of the series with a gear, perhaps, more than the last season: action, fighters, barrows (and respective ghosts), new creatures and old acquaintances! The only negative note is the absence of Annatar and Celebrimbor, curious given that their "partnership" should be, all things considered, the beating heart of this season... However, it is wonderful to see the effects of the "return of Sauron" on the whole world , prelude to war...
