Great concept, but these type of movies are always let down when the 'twist' is revealed. Why does there have to be a literal twist? Why can't there be just unexplained or truly supernatural events that allow exploration of those themes, instead of a 'twist?'
There are definitely horror elements, its not just a psychological film. There are some particularly good scary sequences involving light and shadow, including one involving a wind chime where I out loud said "ok, that was cool" (although TBF, it was probably the only real cool part of the movie).
The eponymous woman and her actress are great, very scary/unsettling, but she ends up being underutilized. The lead protagonist is fine, the kids, particularly the son, are hit and miss. The cop from Grimm is fine in the limited time he has.

People take found footage movies too seriously, and I say this as a huge fan of the genre.
What this Director/cast and crew consistently get right is a humorous tone that works for these types of movies, that helps set off the dark stuff going on. People giving this a 1 have never seen found footage moves or low budget before. People giving this 10 are being realllllly nice lol.
Look, its low budget, like all of this director's films. But it's well done in terms of found footage, there's a lot worse out there, and it manages to stay entertaining. Also, the acting is pretty good, especially for a found footage movie. It's worth watching for fans of the genre.
Again, I CANNOT stress it enough, this is A LOT better than other found footage movies. Rudnicki is one of several found footage directors working today, and I would say he's one of the most consistent ones.

Remember that 2000's SyFy show Haven? This is like that, only bad.
It is very bingeable, which makes sense since it's an Amazon show, but the characters are TERRIBLY written. It's as if someone came up with notes about the characters and concept (which is incredibly derivative and heavy handed in its messaging) without actually writing out and developing those concepts.
It's fun to see a semi-Game of Thrones reunion with Jorah, Alliser Thorne, and Robert (none of whom were on screen together in that IIRC, but still), and each of those actors nail it, but the problem is the characters are all paper thin and wholly inconsistent. Hutton especially, that character serves no purpose except to be antagonistic for no reason no matter the situation. The only truly likable characters don't get as much screen time as the others. The promise shown by the first episode very quickly fizzles into a mess of sloppy effects and underwhelming effects.
It could have been so much better if they doubled down on the isolation and initial horror elements, but somehow additional characters are introduced, which goes entirely against the point of the show, then it becomes schlocky sci-fi that is reminiscent of, but far worse than, the show I referenced above (Haven). I've said it a few times, but it bears repeating: the hamfisted messaging is just awful.
I like the cast and hey, it's not that long of a season so its not the biggest time waster, but still, I'll be hard pressed to watch the second season.
