I just recently stumbled upon this little gem.
Rather than become the thing the film is parodying - "contextualizing" and "tracing historical roots" of this - I just went along for the ride.
It's short and sweet which makes it more interesting. The production values are spare, each character is believable and it operates in its own ecosystem which makes the whole film a tight package.
The question of what makes art "Art" is an old one. This doesn't take on the entire NYC art scene/culture/whatever. It presents the viewer with an age old situation: what does an artist do when they question what the Art World holds dear - if even for the moment.
With this launching point we get one artist's strategy and tactics with predictable and surprising consequences.
Worth your time IMHO.

While The Simpsons may never return to the glory days when Conan O'Brien produced them, this episode captures a lot of the magic from days right after Conan's departure.
There are high-brow guest appearances and references, witty socio-political commentary and riffs on Simpsons canon. There is also a convoluted plot that hearkens back to those early days.
What every detractor seems to forget (or never knew in the first place) is that The Simpsons blazed the trail for much of today's animated comedy. If the new breed of shows lasts 37 years and maintains one iota of the enduring legacy of The Simpsons, I will take back my words.
