Disappointing Series That Fails Basic Science Fiction Standards
I'm genuinely baffled by this series' high ratings. As a dedicated sci-fi fan, I found this adaptation unwatchable due to its fundamental failures in worldbuilding and internal consistency.
Inconsistent Technology and Worldbuilding: The show's depiction of different planets makes no logical sense. We're shown colonies supposedly settled millennia ago by an advanced spacefaring civilization-one capable of interstellar travel and possibly terraforming-yet some of these worlds inexplicably resemble Bronze Age societies with zero modern technology. Somehow, these technologically regressed societies still possess interplanetary travel capabilities. The contradiction is glaring.
Some other planets look like run-down trailer parks, with production design that feels cheaper and less futuristic than actual current-day Mars missions. Some colonies feature incongruous Victorian-era aesthetics for no apparent reason. The visual inconsistency destroys any sense of immersion.
Technology That Makes No Sense: For a space opera set in humanity's distant future, the technology is paradoxically primitive. We have more advanced tech *today* than what's depicted in this supposedly far-future setting. The series fails to establish any coherent technological progression or explain why an interstellar civilization would regress so dramatically. Religion? Yeah, right.
Lazy Writing and Plot Holes: Character competencies appear and disappear as the plot demands. Some instances show characters expertly piloting complex spacecraft they've never encountered before, with zero training or explanation. The show is riddled with similar conveniences that insult the viewer's intelligence.
The series' handling of its central concept regarding predictions is particularly ridiculous, though discussing specifics would venture into spoiler territory.
I haven't read the source material, so I can't comment on whether these problems stem from the books or the adaptation. However, this series represents some of the sloppiest science fiction I've encountered. Don't bother.

I was surprised and happy to see the third part and how it wrapped everything up. Great idea.
Some intelligent and incredibly interesting people were interviewed. And cuddos to that sharp and brave journalist lady! Breathtaking life-stories all around.
I was crying my heart out by the end. Whoever made this is a genius in documentary film-making and a very smart activitist.
Watch it, you won't regret it. It will make you learn and grow.

Don't start watching this series before sleep, because your blood pressure will shoot through the roof due to incredibly dumb characters.
Each of their actions is counter-intuitive and annoying as hell. The series drags on as non-interesting love/family drama with some mental health issues.
Special effects of tsunami and volcano are good, but their on-screen time is too short to make a difference or give you enough satisfaction after such an annoying family drama.
The problem is that you will want to binge it, in anticipation of a bloody tsunami, to get some satisfaction in the end.. so if you are going to watch it, start during the day. If you start in the evening, you will get pissed and disturb your sleep.
That said, I really hope Netflix continues doing apocalyptic/disaster pieces.. as there has been a lack of them in the past few years. But don't do it as series, with stupid drama fillers to drag it on! Just make a movie.
If this was a movie, it would have been much better.
