It definitely feels like a misstep, especially for a role as emotionally central as Luca. When a show's heart hinges on the mother-child bond, a recast needs to not only physically resemble the original actor but also match the emotional continuity - and that's incredibly difficult, especially with child actors.
1. The Original Luca Was Deeply Rooted in the Story
Sebastien and Valentino LaSalle (twins) brought a vulnerability and closeness with Elodie Yung that felt natural and earned over time. Viewers were emotionally invested in that bond - breaking it jars the continuity.
2. The New Actor Feels Mismatched
Whether it's the performance style, age difference, or even delivery of lines, if the child doesn't mesh organically with Yung's emotional tone, it reads as forced - or worse, cold.
3. Viewers Notice These Shifts
This isn't a side character. Luca is Thony's entire motivation - her reason for entering the criminal world, risking everything, and staying in danger. If the chemistry falters, so does the show's emotional weight.
It's unfortunate, because Elodie Yung has the dramatic chops to sell almost any emotional arc - but that only works when she has a believable scene partner.

I truly feel for the original cast members who are still tied to this season. For those fortunate enough to have been part of seasons 1-3, you should count your blessings for stepping away while the show maintained its integrity. Unfortunately, the show's quality has taken a stark nosedive.
What initially drew audiences in was its heartfelt focus on family, loyalty, and love-universal themes that resonated deeply. Now, it has strayed far from its roots, morphing into an exaggerated and shallow mix centered on drugs and cartel drama. This shift not only undermines its original charm but also feels like a disservice to the Southeast Asian community, as it presents a portrayal that is neither flattering nor representative. It's disheartening to see a show that started with so much potential reduced to such a caricature.
