I came into this expecting an Argylle type of thing, which I totally enjoyed. But people, this is not even a shadow of Argylle. First of all, the characters and their personalities are unbelievable/unrealistic. They feel very one dimensional. No one in real life is like that. So that took me out of the movies immediately.

But then, I stuck it out. Watching for the first 20 minutes gave me major cringe... The whole vibe of the movies is very weird. It's like a romcom, but really bad with the forced & unfunny jokes and unnecessary light heartedmess. It's worse than any day time television, which are more believable and natural.

That is a really tough job to do, so good work, writers, directors and actors. None of you delivered.

A solid 2 stars.

For a person who understands the Chinese language, the characters - portrayed through the bad dialogue- are a bit too much.

Also the flashbacks are weirdly out of place, making the film seem weirdly paced, the storyline at certain points is a bit implausible (but so is most sci-fi hero movie)

But it is one of the better films to come out of China: special effects are good, world building is good, and it is refreshing to see a blockbuster movie not set in the English-language world.

I don't get the low ratings. It is definitely worth enjoying as a casual movie. Although it is no Avatar or Interstellar, it is a solid film, so the ratings definitely should be somewhere around 6, not a 5...

Why are writers obsessed with Afghanistan and or military? They are boring AF. It's was a stupid war that should only be spoken of in shame by the US.
