I was really looking forward to this series .......... But - to me - it was a bait and switch. It was the story of Jacques de Bascher, not Lagerfeld. And, frankly, I didn't care for Jacques.
This is a very sad story of two men who were brilliant designers, Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent and the man who reeked havoc in both their lives (rather who they let into their lives) - Jacques de Bascher.
Had this been advertised in a different way, it would have been excellent - the actors were all brilliant. But I did not learn a whole lot about Lagerfeld becoming a designer and that was why I watched it. As it was, I came away depressed for what both Lagerfeld and Saint Laurent endured (willingly!) at the hands of a young man who knew his power and abused it with glee.
As in all things, to each his own.

I was AMAZED at the number of reviewers who were as irritated as I was at the loudness of the gaggle of kids. They are sadly a most unpleasant distraction most of the time they are on screen. Too bad they can't take a page out of the Everybody Loves Raymond scripts and keep them mostly off screen.
Am I going to be subjected to the Little darlings (all their names begin with "L") for all the other seasons as well? One reviewer suggested Boarding School. I am writing this review to say I concur - as well as to suggest to fast forward through their scenes if you don't appreciate little girls screaming and talking over everyone - adults included.
Otherwise, this is a fun watch! The monsters are heavenly! And will provide you with lots to scream at yourself!!

I wasn't going to write a review, but then the last episode hit and....... well, I was compelled to say this contains one of the worst, most gratuitous sex scene I've ever wished I'd fast forwarded through. But it was so bad, I had to watch - like a car wreck. Yes! Diane Lane looks great in it! And her totally unnecessary gym scenes now make sense (no they don't).
This is a good series to binge for the fun of it, until you realize what you're really watching. It's shades of our lives (except for Diane Lane - she's in a movie of her own) and it's wildly subtle, while being in our face.
I also want you to know that when reviewers say the ending was an easy way out - it's true. I kept wondering if I'd missed the last episode. I had not.
It's a strange watch, but the courtrooms scenes are brilliant! The final one alone is worth the watch.
To say this is an odd series is an understatement. Give it a go. Or not!
