Again, it is what it is. Another group of beautiful dumbdumbs, heading to another island crawling with dinos. At least this movie doesn't sell us as a highbrow, just to fall apart (looking at you, 28Years).
Jonathan Bailey-always a delight. The man has charm in spades, and it's about time someone please remake My Best Friend's Wedding with him.
Mahershala Ali and Scarlett Johansson-I hope they paid you A LOT of money. Gareth Edwards, I get it, you need money too.
Since editing a summer action flick for a PG audience while the studio breathes down your neck is a punishment on its own, I gave all those cringe dialogues a pass. We can live without those forced backstories. Nobody bought them. Just give me back my five minutes.
On the bright side: it is harmless fun that we won't remember it by the end of the year. I did love the diverse cast though-bumped my score from a 6 to a 7 for that!
(P. S. It was shot at the same Thailand sea where Saxon, Lochlan, and Chloe got freaky. I do need a crossover with The White Lotus. Imagine Greg's yacht crashing the sea dino hunting scene. Pure chaos. Pure gold.)

I gave 7 after seeing it last night, down to 6 after I woke up. The disappointment tasted even worse the morning after (yes i brushed my teeth.)
I had such high hopes for this follow-up by the original team. On screen, Jodie Comer was a star in all scenes she's in; they obviously plan to give more depth to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character in the next film (a bit one note for now). To me, Alfie Williams was good for half of the time since I found either he or his character insufferable and unconvincing by the end of the movie.
The film itself had so many interesting ideas that they didn't follow through. Rather, they tried giving us a poetic highbrow twist-that felt so forced-after teasing us an epic thriller for the entire time. And while I was finding a way to like the film, here came Jimmy and the gang whom obviously were kidnapped from a Tarantino movie. Oh boy, oh Danny Boyle. What a mess you were making.

I know Newtopia is supposed to be funny and fun, but it is anything but. Stupidity is not silly fun. I need to say that I grew up very familiar with Asian comedy tv/movies from Japan, Korea, HK, Thailand, and even India over the years; this ain't a culture shock for me. So I am fairly confident that I know what a good written and directed Asian comedy looks and feels like. From the first two episodes, this ain't it.
As a Jisoo's longtime stan, this show is also kinda pissing me off. I always thought a romantic comedy would be Jisoo's huge cup of tea, considering how funny she is as herself. Plus, it should be her redemption after what she went through with SnowDrop, how controversial it was, and how much she was criticized over her acting then. I think the writing for her character in SnowDrop was problematic (one-noted and frankly annoying even for a stan). Needless to say, I had high hopes for this show coming in. I'm very disappointed right now, with 6 episodes to go. I'll give it one more episode before I decide if I will give up on it completely.
I am praying that her upcoming movie (Omniscient Reader's) and her next TV series will give her a better role with witty and clever adult banters suitable for her age and status. And please don't make her cry again.
