After reading some really grim reviews by certain film magazines-I was very pleasantly surprised. It was -of course- not realistic- but cozy mystery murders are rarely realistic. Seeing Tom Ellis ice skating was the icing on one of the huge cakes that featured. I found the ending left me wondering, though. I could envisage a much better one. I haven't read the books-but they get good reviews.
Watching it 26 years after first watching -It in hospital. It has lost nothing. At least I don't have any stitches to bust with laughing this time. 😆😆😆
Steve Martin was-and continues to be- a comic genius. I re found him again recently with "only Murders in the building".
From his adoptive family to the people he meets on his journey- there isn't a wrong note.
Even the mad gunman makes me laugh.

The new first series of VanderValk -in 2020 -was great.
Great characters-plenty of believable drama- fantastic filming locations in Amsterdam.
When I knew series 4 was released-I could hardly wait.
A complete disappointment.
From the outset it was slow, unengaging- and I could not take to the new character/ex girlfriend who appeared.
There was no sparking between the characters like before. Marc Warren played the entire 3 episodes like a wooden puppet whose face had stopped working.
The setting of the 'incident room'-the pub-was way under used.
I think it was the writing that failed-the actors just had nothing to react to.
Most of it was simply unbelievable- and so it was impossible to get involved in what was happening on screen.
It used to be a great show with fine actors in a marvellous location.
I hope it finds it's soul again.
