Diversion, equity and inclusion comes to country music. Brought to you by heavy hitters Reese Witherspoon and Kacey Musgraves. Its a bit confusing - the talent pool that is. The end game is sorely needed and noble. The contestant pool is internationally diverse but not always "diverse". There are a lot of contestants from South Africa - not sure how that fits - its all a tad bit confusing. The judges are pure talent and fine individuals, but the contestants' talent is just not there across the board-- you will find better- at least at this early gesture - on American Idol. That said, the initiative is an important one, the question is will it be worth the ride?
Well, that's an hour and 30 minutes I'll never get back and I recommend you don't watch it if you don't wanna lose an hour and 30 minutes either. It was a bunch of rubbish. I should have headed the others' reviews. And I have to say, although I really don't want to, that Winona Ryder is too old for the part. It was distracting. That's not to be meant in a sexist way. It's just that she didn't fit in with her cohorts and clearly she was meant to be in their age group. The acting wasn't that bad overall. The plot had a promising premise and could have been robustly developed but it was just terrible. Save yourself.
I binged watched this Series in two days. I, like others, was taken aback when the producers did not intervene when questionable acts occurred, however, I am confident that the rules or lack thereof were clarified at the outset. This was a game of physical and mental skill. Some of the players were unscrupulous in their actions to get what they wanted. But in the end, survival skills, comradery, teamwork and endurance brought it home to those that were deserving. I watch every survival show that comes out. Was this shocking and uncomfortable? Yes, Scripted? No. Were there unsavory players with very questionable morales and credentials to back up the bad behavior? You bet -- that's what makes for good reality television.
