For anyone that watches a lot of horror, you'll know how difficult it is to scare audiences today. This film got me. It's definitely without a doubt one of the scariest and most original indie horror films to come out in 2024. Oddity managed to tell what feels like a big story in really just a few locations. I can't imagine the budget was too big, and sometimes it felt low budget, but in my opinion, this only made it scarier. For some reason I always feel like big budget horror movies don't serve the scares as successfully because there's something comforting about the studio polish. This film had an indie grit and the jump scares were SO EFFECTIVE. I don't jump easily but this got me several times. And the story is also captivating. Highly recommend, especially for horror lovers!
Seriously, this film got me as a kid and it still gets me today. Such a well written, self aware, raucous comedy that takes it as far as it possibly can for a PG-13 movie, and then some. Rob Schneider is at his best in this film, and it's so cool to see Rachel McAdams before she was who she is today. Such talent all around. Even the writing and directing needs to get credit... the music was straight out of a 90's comedy even though this was made in the early 2000's. I'm sure everyone's seen this movie by now but if you haven't, just trust me when I say it holds up today in 2024. You won't be disappointed, you'll be laughing your butt off!
This was actually one of the scariest films I've seen all year. The fact that it's not a huge budget makes it way scarier, not really sure why... but it does. I was thoroughly disappointed with Longlegs which everyone said was supposed to be the scariest movie of the year but it ended up not being that great. Beezel actually delivers the scares and there's never a dull moment. If any moment felt slow you were quickly jolted awake with an insane adrenaline rush making you want to rewind and watch again. This entire movie was insanely unpredictable and shocking and kept you on the edge of your seat... and I rarely feel that way, especially toward horror movies. Definitely worth the watch.
