All the hoo-haa that used to be around about ten years ago with "Scandi-noir" has thankfully mostly died down as personally I wasn't as convinced as much as others of the overall quality of much of it, but there were some great gems like The Bridge and Snabba Cash. This new Danish series may not reach those heady heights, but we have a very gripping and unpredictable series.
Our lead protagonist ("Tea") is a young lady who finds herself a tool of an anti-drugs police agency, using her as an undercover agent to get close to the wife of the main target. The problem is that Tea is between a rock & a hard place under the thumb of an unemotive & near-sociopathic team lead who will do anything to take down his target, whilst the drug dealer they are aiming to take down also has a psychotic side as well as paranoia. Between them all is the real "asset", the drug dealer's wife ("Ashley") who is the centre point target who will determine the success or not of the agency's mission as well as the drug dealer's project.
What we have is an intriguing cat & mouse game as we see how Tea digs her into the lives of her target but unlike her bosses, she still retains some humanity & friendship for Ashley, when really she should have remain unattached. This creates difficulties but adds much interest. We sympathise with the two lead ladies but we all know that it will not end well, but how it will end is something that is what will keep you watching.
Some great acting, dialogue and tension. It's a short-series that Danish media should be proud of having made. I really found it fascinating. It's mostly self-contained being just six episodes so no long slog. There's potential for further series in my opinion, but even if they left it as it is, I'd be very happy and may even sit down to watch it again.

Before anyone bangs on complaining about remakes, first need to note that strictly this is totally independent to the 1980s Arnie movie. The original novella was written by Stephen King (using Richard Bachmann psuedonom) but the Arnie movie really is so loosely based on it that that film was more in homage to it, whilst this new 2025 adaption is a far more faithful adaption of the novel.
The popular Edgar Wright has taken on the challenge, and I very much was surprised by just entertaining & enjoyable it is. The general consensus from critics seemed to be at best lukewarm to this movie which is a shame as it's intriguing and keeps your full attention. Maybe some felt uncomfortable with the obvious contemporary political allegories in the movie but that should have been parked by the critics when reviewing the film. In its own right, this is a very enjoyable decent action flick with some social commentary.
Anyhow, Glen Powell is a perfect lead who enters the game to succeed to win the funds to pay for his child's care in an imperfect world that doesn't care for the young one. The problem is that The Running Man game is really a rigged competition that leaves no contestants alive. However, Glen Powell is no simple competitor, who battles everything in his path to survive rather than win.
The film has humour, it has social commentary, decent action and some great direction. I think it was very good. Admittedly, it wasn't anything special, but it is so different to the Arnie film that it is undeniably NOT correct to dub this as being a re-make. The original Arnie movie was an often brutal, comic and even camp take on the excesses of TV viewership. This is a lot more, and I enjoyed it. An interesting cross-section of character & environments too, whilst the Arnie film really was more for the gym-bound muscle heads.
If you want to watch a good sold action flick which is a cut above the rest of the fare in the current time, then this is it. I enjoyed it, and I'm sure you will too.

We have a story about two Americans portraying very stereotyped "rednecks" kidnapping the head of a giant corporate firm as they believe she is actually an alien, and a threat to humanity! Yes you read that right.
Firstly, despite that bizarre premise, this is actually a very well directed film, but it's the acting that really stands out with Emma Stone as the strong lead countering the immature amateur efforts of the two inept kidnappers. They are conspiracy obsessed and in over their heads, yet despite the ridiculousness of their aims, our two lead actors portray them so well as to be sympathetic. Especially, Don portrayed by Aidan Delbis as the cousin with special needs who really is uncomfortable in these events.
Anyhow, despite that, it's an awful story, and really the premise is more for a short film than a 2 hour movie. I don't know who this movie is for. It's a strange absurd, sci-fi horror lite which I've seen some similar storylines before, in particular one old film based on a Dean R Koontz book from long back. No spoilers, but I could see the ending from a mile off from near the start, and I'm sure many of you will to.
I'm sure the absurdness of the film will appeal to some, but not for me.
