The Fetus is an independent movie directed by Joe Lam and starring Lauren LaVera, Bill Moseley and Julian Curtis. I had been looking forward to watching this since I first saw the original trailer a couple months ago. My biggest concern was that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. Thankfully the Fetus met and exceeded my expectations. I loved it.
The story involves a new couple and an unplanned pregnancy. The pregnancy progresses at an unnatural pace and it quickly becomes apparent the expected baby is potentially evil. I am trying to keep this review spoiler free, so I will just say the movie deals with deception, trust, love, faith and religion, family, good and bad, pain, and of course the fear of becoming a parent.
Hats off to the impressive acting, especially the leading three actors who all deliver dramatic, compassionate, and authentic portrayals of their characters. Lauren LaVera astonished me in Terrifier 2 and 3, and brings excellent acting again in this movie. Looking forward to future movies she's in.
Also the direction and cinematography were very well done. I didn't notice how far I was in the movie until around an hour or so in and realized how smooth the movie flows.
I would definitely recommend anyone to watch this movie. Especially horror fans, but honestly the characters are relatable to anyone who has been in a relationship, had family issues, been deceived, etc. The movie is creepy, caring, off the walls at times and the best movie analogy I can describe is part Evil Dead, part Twilight Zone, and part Don't Look Now. The story is wild in some moments that remind me of Evil Dead, but it stays on course and certainly isn't boring or dull.

An indie horror movie about voodoo. Not too many movies that fit into that specific category. Hopefully this movie inspires more in this sub genre. The story is wild, goofy and entertaining. The performances of the voodoo priest and Kendall particularly shine. I was thoroughly impressed by the opening scene; the camera work, the music, the lighting, and the delivery of lines - creepy and on point. Avaryana Rose may very well be an up and coming star in horror.
This is a fun movie. I look forward to more from this team. I encourage fellow fans or horror or independent movies to check out this movie.
