I have been spending the summer learning Greek (long story short I always wanted to learn a foreign language & took a leap of faith. I wrote down several languages & put them in a hat & my blind pick was Greek). It was suggested that I watch Greek movies & TV shows with English subtitles to help get a feeling for the syntax of conversations in the Greek language. And I have watched SEVERAL Greek movies and shows and it definitely helps.
Which brings me to Eisai to Tairi Mou (You're My Soulmate in English). This show came VERY highly recommended by several people. I found it on the internet with English subtitles and started watching.
This show is HILARIOUS! It is an ensemble of several cast members and two simultaneous, interconnected plot lines taking place in Greece and partially in Australia. Every one of the 30 episodes is side-splittingly funny and well acted and written. It also has a great soundtrack of both Greek and popular English language music. Although this show is over 20 years old, it is still fresh and one of the funniest shows I've ever watched in my life.
One of the central actors on the show, Vicky Stavropoulou, is outstanding and absolutely hilarious and wonderful. She has great chemistry with every single actor she interacts with. Another standout in the cast was Vasilis Andreopoulos, the Grandfather of the Bezentakos family. He was HILARIOUS and stole every single scene he was in even just by his presence. But every character and actor is just as great and important to the storyline.
I don't want to give away the somewhat complicated plot, but Eisai to Tairi Mou begins with switched identities and the comedy of errors arising out of it. It also deals with issues of societal judgment on class and appearance (particularly prejudice against women's weight and on beauty standards set by society) and how kindness, personality, inner beauty, belief in and loving yourself, self respect and respect for others, standing up for yourself and daring to dream are among the most important aspects of achieving personal happiness and finding love. And most importantly finding your soulmate in the most unexpected of ways when you truly open your heart and drop
The final episode is one of the most wonderful wrap ups to any show I've ever watched and proves that true happiness CAN be achieved. Just watching this show alone will make you laugh out loud and brighten your mood.
I honestly don't know how this show wasn't adapted for either a U. S. or British audience (e.g. A show like "Bad Sisters"). I'm just grateful to the man who did a phenomenal job of translating this show with English subtitles.
Don't be discouraged by watching a foreign language show with subtitles because you will be more than entertained by every single character and every single episode leading up to the best ending in the final episode. Your face will hurt from laughing so hard every episode. And you may also experience a few happy tears along the way.
And personally, watching Eisai to Tairi Mou definitely helped me get a greater feel for the Greek language and I learned a lot of new words and phrases from watching it. And I surprised myself at how much I understood without reading the translation (sorry to humble brag but yay).
Give this show a chance, you won't be disappointed! Yiamas!!!

I was bored. The kind of bored when you venture into the outlier free streaming apps for something, anything, to watch. And there on a jankety free streaming service was my old childhood favorite, Emergency! And my first crush, Johnny Gage *swoon* (Randolph Mantooth)! I originally watched this show when I was a young girl. Johnny Gage was the most handsome and funny character I had ever laid eyes on!
I hadn't watched Emergency! (never forget the all important exclamation mark!!!!!!) in decades but I often waxed nostalgic about this show. And I never realized how many girls also crushed hard on Johnny Gage until I discovered in conversations with many of my now adult friends who watched Emergency! Also counted Johnny Gage as their first crush too LOL!!!
So I started re-watching Emergency! From the first episode and it still slaps!! Some of the treatments and terminology have become outdated and modernized but there is a lot in the show that is still in use today, particularly the rescue techniques. This show was at the forefront of raising awareness of the value of the "Golden Hour" in saving lives and for EMS becoming the norm for emergency first response throughout the U. S. and the world. One of the pioneers of EMS was a technical advisor to the show and according to the show's wiki, the main actors even went through some paramedic training to add to the realism of the show.
Paramedics Johnny Gage and Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) of Squad 51 from Station 51 were and still remain the best partner combination: Roy, the serious family career man and Johnny Gage as the handsome young playboy-ish, single, fun guy who was usually unlucky in love. Another series regular character, firefighter, Chet Kelly, was the firehouse prankster which added comedy to the show. The fire engine (Engine 51) driver was a real firefighter. Even the person who voiced the dispatcher was a real LAFD dispatcher. I'm sure a lot of the stories were scripted from events that actually happened.
Add in the hospital staff of "Rampart General Hospital" who worked hand-in-hand with the paramedics. Dr. Brackett (Robert Fuller), Dr. Early (Bobby Troup) and nurse Dixie (Troup's real life wife Julie London), as well as Ron Pinkard as Dr. Morton.
A lot of good came out of Emergency! It also helped raise awareness of the importance of regular citizens learning CPR to help save lives. (And everyone should learn CPR and how to use an automatic external defibrillator device, the class only takes a few short hours but can save a life, possibly even a loved one's life). Apologies, I'm a healthcare worker. I'll step down off my Soapbox now.
I've watched a lot of the modern shows in the vein of Emergency! But none of them even come close to the OG. It will always be one of my favorite shows, even all these decades later.
And I STILL & will ALWAYS have a crush on Johnny Gage *swoon*.

Simply stated I ADORE this movie. It is easily in my Top 5 favorite movies of all time. There isn't anything I can critique about "Almost Famous". It's basically a perfect movie to me. I can watch it a thousand times and never get tired of it. Having grown up as a Rock fan from birth it captures the era perfectly.
Everything Cameron Crowe touched was gold from "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" to "Say Anything", "Singles" and "Jerry McGuire" through this movie were a seminal part of my younger years. "Almost Famous" was his crowning achievement for me. People often cite John Hughes as the best director of movies geared towards adolescents/young adults, but Cameron Crowe truly had his fingers on the pulse of what it was REALLY like growing up during the era.
*Chef's kiss* to Almost Famous. I wish I could double the amount of stars I give it.
