Now modern marvel is definetly more inconsistent compared to phases 1-3, with this years Captain America: Brave New World not helping it's case. However despite being what seems like a defient misfire on paper. Thunderbolts* is one of the best films post endgame, with it not even feeling like a marvel movie at points.
Now lets get one thing out of the way: Despite seeming like you would need a lot of marvel knowledge to even enjoy it. It's actually pretty standalone, feeling more like guardians of the galaxy then a typical marvel homework fest. What I mean by that is that it has arcs that you can apperciate if you don't keep up with marvel on a regular basis or haven't watched the previous films. But also is neat payoff to the people who actually watched the previous films. The characters are also really well written with full arcs and development, yelena and bob being standouts, even the comic relief (red guardian) gets a moment to shine, each characters struggles are shown or mentioned, and they payoff well. I do feel like some characters like ghost did get sidelined but I don't even hate her, just wish we got more of her.
The only other complaint I have is that it's slower paced and lacks action, while I do like character driven stuff, there are only a few action scenes and with it's slow pacing, I could see someone easily getting bored.
Overall it's a great film thats worth watching on Disney+ when it comes out
84/100.

I read the books when I was little so naturally when I heard a movie was coming out I was happy!
It's an accurate adaptation, if you are a fan who just wants that you will love it. It also has some emotional moments in the form of Petey's character arc. Dogman does get stuff to do but his emotional arc feels sidelined. The film does have great animation for a 40 million dollar film
But it feels very safe, they introduce themes of abandonment but only do the bare minimum and don't bother expanding those themes. I get it's a dogman movie but I still want some form of emotional depth. Also it adds way too much, rushing through 25% of the franchise in one movie with the villians being prime examples. One's entire character is rushed through and another could have been removed and nothing would have changed. It's also just rapid fire jokes at points, feeling like family guy at points as it tries to get from one joke to another as fast as possible, boarderline brainrot at points
Overall, I think if you have some little kids they will enjoy it and same with fans. But if you have more standards, prepare for a very by the books kids film
67/100.
