To be fair, this show throws logic out the window, and the screenplay is a chaotic mess. But it's that very sense of mental disarray that gives it so much style. Certain lines are so utterly unhinged that they've actually transcended into a form of high art, which makes me both laugh and think it could be a sort of literature.
The backstory in this one feels a lot like Harry Potter. The main takeaway is that friends can solve anything but the characters have no real character arc, and the problems are all resolved by a deus ex machina in the very last minute. It doesn't feel like a character-focused special to me, this episode actually flattens Peppermint Butler's personality (yes, he is wicked but not in that constant yelling way??) and contradicts the ending of earlier episodes.:(
