The first half of this movie really drags. The real-world and characters aren't taken seriously by the writing which made it hard to feel immersed, and also left me wondering if I'd clicked on the wrong movie.
The actual Minecraft world is hit-or-miss. Trying to pull off a "hyper-realistic Minecraft" style made it mostly uncanny. Most things looked 'just okay' at best, but the villagers and animals looked gross. I wish the actual Minecraft segments had been animated in a more cartoony style, closer to the game.
The movie has some accuracy to niche game mechanics which I appreciated, but it also took some creative liberties I didn't enjoy (like crafting an air canon out of a tater tot and an erase). I enjoyed explaining game mechanics and references to my partner. The reference to Technoblade was really nice. The nether and piglins looked good and were handled well. The second half was okay.
But the good definitely doesn't outweigh the bad in this case.

Played this with a friend and we had a lot of fun! I'll have to replay it some time with someone else.
I got quite attached to the characters, especially Erin and Jamie. The visuals are nice, the scares made me jump, and the co-op experience is immaculate and adds to the most to the gameplay! Playing this on your own might not be great, play it with a friend!
It'd be 9/10 if it wasn't so buggy. Our run took ~5 hours, yet we had to reopen the game 6 times and restart a whole section. The character voices glitched, models got stuck in T-poses, the breaker puzzle was REALLY broken on my end and I had to google a work-around, and we got frozen in-place on each other's screens a few times. To cap it all off, my game crashed right as the ending credits finished lol.
I don't typically mind bugs, they usually add to a game's charm imo. Mark T-posing during a serious cutscene was great, but there were so many major glitches that I have to say something.
I'd still replay this game with another friend, though!
