This film exposes many gaps in its script, from the absence of a proper backstory and the lack of depth in the main character's personality, to the way we're forced to make assumptions about her based only on external events: either through the inheritance she receives or the recognition she gains for her work. The love story could have added more substance, but instead it contributes to the film's shallow, performative "woke" layer, with a man who simply gives and creates opportunities for the protagonist without any real motivation. The same applies to the supposed antagonists: a pair of insignificant figures who were excluded from the inheritance and about whom we learn nothing else.
Between the lines, one can spot elements that reflect the Portuguese housing market, government bureaucracy, and even traces of sexism-attempts at social critique. Yet, the film undermines itself by highlighting the cultural sector's dependence on gambling sponsorships, going so far as to showcase betting companies as official backers within the film itself. The message collapses under this contradiction. While this doesn't entirely discredit the issues raised, it does reveal the superficiality of both the script and the ideas behind it.
In the end, I felt I had just sat through two hours of nothing-deeply disappointed given the immense potential suggested by the trailer, which hinted at humor and mannerisms that could have brought real depth to the film.
