As a result of the series' deft manipulation of expectations, Ryo, the protagonist, is not only overpowered but also merely desires a peaceful, uncomplicated existence. The show is brilliant because it doesn't rush.
By emphasizing character and world-building over incessant, pointless battles, the series demonstrates that you can have an overpowered protagonist and still tell a fantastic story. It is one of the most refreshing anime to be released this year because it perfectly combines moments of epic fantasy with a laid-back, slice-of-life vibe.
