Joseph is a well made detective movie that keeps you engrossed till the end.
The characters are all well cast, the cinematography superb, with some great locations. Wonder where the beautiful shola grassland hill location is?
The film has quite a few songs, surprisingly for this genre and usually I tend to fast forward my way through film songs but this time for the most part I listened and admittedly the songs were quite good. I loved the ritual Margam Kali dance shown during the wedding function. Im not from Kerala and I appreciate learning about India's diverse customs and cultures when shown in films.
Joseph's tragic life was depicted so effectively that I am sure most people would have had at least moist eyes. Joju George conveyed his emotions and the trauma he suffered post Lisamma's murder, his daughter Dayana's death and Stella's death very well. Peter's (Dileesh Pothan) expressions were also superb. Joseph's retired colleagues were also excellent as was the cab driver in the first and last scenes who innocuously asks Peter if the medal is his.

An investigation thriller with a conventional story plot portrayed through a well compounded screenplay and detailing.
The plot of the story revolves around an eye witness to a murder and the investigation cornering the events that led to the crime.
The screenplay writing by Akhil - Anas duo keeps many open ends in the first half and the dots join altogether in the latter half giving a decent experience although sounds a bit lethargic in few sequences once the plot is revealed. The efforts behind the detailing given to the storyline is impressive though the plot may feel primitive to the audience.
Subtle performance by Tovino as the character giving a decent delivery. It seems like Trisha was pulled to the movie just for scaling up the project and to portray the distinctive character arc and layers unlike her prior films. Impressive performance by Vinay Rai portraying varied layers of the character & Mandir Bedi in a stylish avatar while debuting in Malayalam. Shammi Thilakan,Aju Varghese,Archana Kavi,Sujith Sankar & Giju John made notable performances.
