Watching a movie is supposed to illicit emotions for the audience; i.e. compassion for the hero, hatred for the villain, etc. "Daredevil" accomplishes this tenuous balance between melodrama and buffoonery with surprising agility for a modern film. Unlike its fairweather cousin "Spider Man," DD brought a sense of realism to the fantastic realm of the Marvel Universe. One could truly believe these characters were real, breathing beings, not over-characterized hero types commonly found in today's movies. Matt Murdock was vividly portrayed as a hero who is also a human, replete with scars, a myriad of medications, and who is capable of genuine suffering. With great additions such as his Sancho Panza Ben Urich (Pantoliano), as well as a dynamic adversary in the way of Bullseye (Farrell), the cast succeeds in telling the story of a vigilante defender of the defenseless. While obviously not the best movie, DD is still worth seeing for a tight action adventure with a satisfying ending a more than its own share of corniness, which is always a good thing.

You know, I really enjoyed this film, the first time, when Elizabeth Taylor starred in it, nearly half a decade ago! How many times can Hollywood be allowed to rehash classics for a racial or socioeconomic niche, a la "Ten Things I Hate About You," or "Romeo Must Die." The time has come for critics and moviegoers alike to tell the established production front that such generational amalgams of pop culture and old fashioned character do not stand the test of time, like fifteen minutes. If you're ready to see the same movie for the hundredth time, don't bother. Just go pick up a nice little book called "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare." Maybe you've heard of it...
