The first film was a grim but enthralling action movie where one man takes on a rogue detachment of Nazis, the sequel however ramps up the action and sets our legendary protagonist against the soviet soldier who murdered his family.

After a poignant opening sequence the film piles into a set of increasingly intense and increasingly preposterous action sequences.

At times i was reminded of mad max: road warrior, only in Finland rather than down under.

This is about as generic as action movies get but the setting is at least interesting.

A troubled working class truck driver and his brain injured veteran brother get fired just in time to answer the call to drive a truck over dangerous ice roads. The clock is ticking as the cargo is vital to saving the lives of trapped mine workers.

Of course it all goes horrifically wrong , but luckily Liam Neeson is on hand to punch his way through the plot holes and logical inconveniences.

Its big dumb fun and the special effects are decent enough.

But if I knew anything about trucks or driving in ice roads I suspect i would have been shouting at the tv.

One to watch when you can't be bothered concentrating.

Hostage isnt sure what it is. Poltical drama ? Family drama? Action Thriller ?

Its a bit of all of these but isnt particularly convincing at any of them.

Plot, character and basic logic take a back seat in order to keep the story moving along and allow for each episode to escalate the stakes above the previous.

Its bingeable, braindead tv that occasionally surprises but more often has you muttering at the gaping absence of realism.
