"Boots" succeeds as a heartfelt, surprisingly warm coming-of-age story wrapped in the unlikely setting of 1990s Marine Corps boot camp. What could have easily become a heavy-handed message piece instead finds an admirable balance of humour, heart, and genuine self-discovery. At its centre is Miles Heizer's 'Cameron Cope', a directionless, closeted teenager who enlists with his straight best friend and finds himself thrust into a world built on discipline, conformity and silence.
The show delights in its ensemble of misfits - recruits who don't wholly fit the mould, and drill instructors who, even in their sternness, reveal shades of vulnerability. Episodes begin as familiar boot camp fare but evolve into something far richer about identity and belonging." At its best, "Boots" explores questions of masculinity, friendship, and the cost of hiding who you are with a light touch that still carries emotional weight.
The tone is buoyant without being flippant: there are moments of levity, radical bond-forming, and camaraderie amid the physical and emotional adversity. As noted in advance coverage: "You'll laugh, you'll cheer ... and you'll probably cry as well." That's a strong sign the series honours the ride. Production details - from the era-specific soundtrack to the brutalities of training - also pull you in: you feel the sweat, the hurry-up-and-wait, the fear of being found out.
If there's a caveat, it's that "Boots" sometimes leans into familiar tropes of the misfit recruit narrative and doesn't always delve as deeply into the broader military machinery as some might wish. But that's a small price to pay for a show that offers so much warmth, emotional clarity and hope. Ultimately, "Boots" shines because it insists that even in the toughest environments, finding your voice and your people matters.
If you're looking for a series that blends laughter, tears, friendship and self-acceptance in an unexpected setting, "Boots" is a winner.

Oh my goodness! Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger with of gigantic proportions. Season 2 had me almost in a heart attack in the closing few minutes of Season 2.
I do not know if my heart can take a Season 3.
I initially thought this was a lo key, slow burn political drama. Maybe another kind of *feel good* tv drama like Madame Secretary.
Boy, was I wrong. The Diplomat will have you on the edge of your seat each episode. Binge watching them like a starved animal.
This is political theatre at its very finest. It's even more cut throat than my wildest dreams.
And, even if it's only 1 tenth true of what REALLY happens in USA politics and the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy) it is still a wild ride.
Keri Russell is once again in a strong female protagonist role that reminded me why I loved her performance so much in "The Americans" She is outstanding!

Argh! I have been seriously missing out on some of the absolute BEST freaking comedy out there. IMDb algorithm suggested this for me and when I looked it up, S03E09 had just streamed.
I have never binge watched anything like I binge watched Hacks. I laughed SO hard I am amazed my bladder didn't burst. But also, I connected. Two such hugely polarising personalities, completely dysfunctional, possibly even co-dependent but darn - it just works.
This show has the power to connect and resonate with every generation from Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X and Boomers
It's snarky, sassy, razor-sharp but it's also deeply endearing and heart-warming. There absolutely has to be at least another 2 seasons and some major awards for Hacks come 24/25 Awards Season.
