Younger brother of Paramount Studios president John Goldwyn.

Son of actress Jennifer Howard and producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr. Grandson of actress Clare Eames and playwright Sidney Howard on his mother's side; grandson of actress Frances Howard and producer Samuel Goldwyn on his father's side.

In the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon (1998), he played astronaut Neil Armstrong, first man to walk on the moon. Later, he had the chance to direct Armstrong in a film called Pleine lune à Woodstock (1999), in which Armstrong was a narrator.

He studied drama at HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York City.

His grandfather, filmmaker Samuel Goldwyn, was a friend of Walt Disney. In 1999, Tony Goldwyn voiced the title character Tarzan in the 37th Disney animated feature, Tarzan (1999).

He has appeared in three films that have been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar: Mon fantôme d'amour (1990), King Richard: Au-delà du jeu (2021) and Oppenheimer (2023). The latter won in the category.

His grandfathers, Samuel Goldwyn and Sidney Howard, were frequent collaborators for many years. They worked on a total of eight films together: Bulldog Drummond (1929), Raffles (1930), One Heavenly Night (1930), Arrowsmith (1931), The Greeks Had a Word for Them (1932), and Dodsworth (1936).

Tony's paternal grandfather, who was born in Warsaw, was from a Polish Jewish family. Tony's other ancestry is Irish, English, Scots-Irish (Northern Irish), Scottish, and German.

Has two daughters, screenwriter Anna Musky-Goldwyn and actor Tess Goldwyn.

Had known Norman Lloyd since birth. Tony's parents were Norman's closest and dearest friends.

With the encouragement of Norman Lloyd, he decided to be an actor.

Half-brother of Liz Goldwyn and Peter Goldwyn.

Attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
