Kampers studied mathematics and drama at the Kirwan school of drama in North Queensland, Australia.
Known for his mathematical ability, he decided not to follow his passion of drama studying psychology at James Cook University. It was while at university that he formed a band called 'Roughly 10:14' with his good friend Clayton Hinds.
Despite neither member playing an instrument, the band appeared at parties, though were never asked to perform. The band eventually broke without releasing an album or even having practiced a song.
