Speak of the Devil

Better than the usual Daredevil episode for a couple reasons. First of all, there is more happening in this episode do you don't have to sit through quite as much exposition as usual. Also, they took the epic martial arts fight at the end of the story and basically spread it out throughout this episode, trying to break up the monotony LOL.

An exciting episode. Pure excitement. The plot was great.

This episode gives us another great fight scene, good emotional/intellectual scenes, and the first face-to-face meeting of our hero and villain...well, technically two.

Let's start with the emotional scenes in this episode. First, there was the incredible scenes of faith and morality between Matt and his priest, Father Lantom. This is a truly great meeting and Lantom tells a great story of the time he saw the devil, in his time as a missionary. It is a powerful scene that informs Matt that just because Fisk is the bad guy, doesn't mean he is the good guy, especially if Matt kills Fisk. There was more powerful scenes when the team find out that their beloved client, Mrs Cardenas, a lovely old lady, was killed, not directly but ordered by Fisk. I am really sad that she is gone as she was so sweet and innocent, but it really helps the storyline and furthers the main characters.

In this episode, we also get two crucial meetings. The first one is between Matt and Fisk. Matt, not in his vigilante guise, meets Fisk's lover, Vanessa, in order to get an insight into Fisk. While meeting her, Fisk happens to stop by. Matt is clearly angry that he is near him right now, but he hides it pretty well when talking with Fisk. Fisk, however, seems like he might think that Matt could be the man in the mask, because his voice and the way he talks about helping people, sounds like the man in the mask on the night of the bombings. While it does look that Fisk is suspicious, he is also clearly dismissing it as Matt is blind.

The fight scene, interlaced with this episode, was fast-paced and brutal. Matt fights against Nobu, a deadly ninja and the leader of the Yakuza, or whoever they are, after Mrs Cardenas is killed. The fight is super-intense as Matt suffers various cuts and wounds. Nobu is accidentally killed in the fight and Matt escapes but not before Fisk arrives and takes a couple shots at him. This is the first time that Fisk meets the man in the mask, and you can see that while Fisk is clearly angry and annoyed at Matt's interference, you can see that he sort of respects Matt's mission of saving Hell's Kitchen.

Also, small thing here, but Foggy now knows that Matt is the vigilante.

+ Fight scene + Matt and Father Lantom + Matt meets Fisk/Fisk meets the Man in the Mask + Powerful emotional scenes + Foggy knows +/- Mrs Cardenas is killed off but it is important to the story.

I'm watching the whole series episode by episode, and so far this is the best episode from episode 1 to 9. 10/10
