I loved this show until they started removing regular dogs from the original cast....Mr Shades has been a regular dog from day one. Now I find myself explaining his disappearance to my 2 year old. He's been our favorite and now I doubt we will continue watching. Also, Cricket the dog rarely gets airtime! As for young Calvin I think he's doing a wonderful job. I have seen his acting get much better as the show goes on. I wish him luck as I think he will go far.It seems to me they continue to add more puppets to the show. Which is fine.I just wish they would stick with all the original dogs. Its tough explaining where they have gone to a toddler/ preschooler. I'm very disappointed!
The little boy I watch during the week (1.5 years old) loves puppies, so it's a great show for him. It may not have "educational value" in the sense of things kids would learn in school, but it does teach kids how to interact with dogs, which I believe is very important for children. Children need to be taught how to treat and interact with animals. If they don't know the proper way to treat and interact with animals, they have a higher chance of getting hurt by an animal, which at that point it's not really the animal's fault for doing what their instinct is when they feel threatened. I also think it's a great "break show" from all the others that do teach traditional educational topics. Yes, it's great to have shows to assist in teaching kids, but anyone old enough to have kids can't possibly say they didn't watch anything without educational value. It's OK to let kids watch something just because it's fun every now and then. You can't rely solely on educational programs to teach your kids, so what's the harm in letting them watch something that's just cute, as long as it entertains them? And if it doesn't entertain them, so what? Not every show is going to attract the attention of every child. My advice is give it a chance and if your kid doesn't like it, oh well.
This show was very entertaining especially since they used a bunch of pups. I wouldn't say it was educational but it had a good message.
When you think of Sid and Marty Kroftt, you think of their wacky children's shows that dominated TV in the 1970s. When you think Cesar Millan, you think of the canine behavioral guru, who helps humans handle their hounds. Who ever thought the two would ever come together. No-brainer since all (or most) kids LOVE dogs and puppets. The basic plot is Calvin Millan (Cesar's teenage son) and Mutt (imagine H.R Pufnstuf, if he was a giant dog, geddit "Mutt & Stuff"= "Pufnstuf) run a school/day care center for dogs (played by real dogs).
Rounding out the cast are a talking fire hydrant and two cats who act like Statler and Waldorf. There's not much educational value or kid appeal in this show, but if you want to watch dogs and puppets act silly for 20 minutes, this show is for you!

I am completely disappointed with Mutt & Stuff this is the lamest new show Nick Jr.has. I had such high hopes knowing who made this show but I swear my son's IQ dropped as he was watching it. I seriously can't believe this show even made it to Nick Jr. We will not be watching this dribble. My son had no interest in this show it couldn't keep his focus. It has no educational value, the actors seem to be having difficulty even saying there lines & so unrehearsed sounding.Even there actions seem well fake fake fake! I love Nick Jr's line up of shows & there are a ton of other shows on Nick Jr for my son to watch just not this show! I really do hope they remove this show....
