Who Stole Roger Rabbit

Of all the British XXX purveyors, I turn to Bluebird Films for strangeness. Certain things are indeed predictable, namely the sloppy productions and inclusion of as many big-breasted actresses as money can buy. But the content and improvised looneyness often surprises.

Ostensibly part of the ongoing and lamentable trend towards porno ripoffs of popular TV shows and movies, this riff on the landmark Zemeckis film isn't really creative or funny but is as zany as can be.

From the porno point-of-view it is quite unusual in the amount of screen humping time given to star Stacey Saran as a live-action Jessica Rabbit. One of Bluebird's A-list stars, she is delightful delivering over 2 hours of sex even though just one of a huge cast of femmes.

Premise is that she's mislaid her favorite dildo, named Roger Rabbit, and given a workout in the opening solo turn, one of eight sex vignettes. This initial segment also features the film's only animation, crudely done oversize flowers and what seems like a giant M&M from one of those deadly TV commercials for the chocolate.

Rest of the film gives free rein to include all sorts of cartoon and pop culture movie and TV characters, thrown in willy-nilly. The huge-breasted Jasmine Black, giggling inanely plays Minnie Mouse, Cindy Behr with whip is more or less a femme Indiana Jones, Lily Love is Morticia from "The Addams Family" (with Anamaria as young Wednesday). Sylvester the Cat is a British stud in a funny outfit (his dick sticking out) and even Tweetie Pie becomes a male porno star in costume.

If that isn't silly and eclectic enough casting, this British production makes the mistake of aping/mocking various purely American phenomena, so gangster Al Capone becomes the wonderful Renee Richards as Cat Capone, there's an Elvis impersonator, and even a ludicrous caricature of a generic cowboy/gunslinger thrown into the mix. A Bob Hoskins imitator, doing an extremely poor job, is also on hand in honor of ripping off the original more directly.

Some scenes work better than others, such as a poorly photographed but highly arousing hospital room burlesque in which Paige Ashley as the nurse stars in a strong threesome.

Finale is a 40-minute orgy, somewhat tedious but made palatable by such buxom models participating, including the inimitable Emma Butt in a fishnet top and her trademark glasses, two Black performers Romana Ryder and Ebony Goddess (latter sporting amazingly long nipples) and many others. Attempts at slapstick and humor are tossed in to pretend it's not just about sex. At one point I thought the anonymous filmmakers were making a hip reference when a nightclub singer was introduced as Cleo Laine, but alas, it turned out merely to be actress Tia Layne.

Recommended mainly for Saran fans and seekers after the unusual. I want to ask whether they might have made a quality film while spending so much effort on nonsense, but I'm afraid quality is not in Bluebird's cinematic vocabulary.

NOTE: Another Bluebird release starring Stacey titled "Independence Day" is not listed in IMDb, perhaps because its release version is all botched up: 100 minutes of "Independence Day" erroneously spliced to 60 minutes (the ending) of an unknown Bluebird project starring Anna Lovato. Even complete, "Independence Day" marks a new low for the Bluebird label, a misguided devolution (!) comedy of Stacey Saran representing Wales in a successful campaign to achieve its independence from Britain. Its creator Paul Chaplin improvises with his voice-over directing the action and only his hand (or later his cock) visible in frame, much in the manner of the character White Fang in those old Soupy Sales TV shows.
