Surprisingly entertaining this show manages to be family friendly instead of simply kid friendly.
It is bursting with personality. To strike a more suitable comedic tone it seems that a few characters were inspired by their puppet counterparts in the Robot chicken shorts. The emperor especially is just a treat to watch him and his antics.
The main characters are also quite well written. The Freemakers do feel like a real family. it is quite heartwarming to see them work together.
Furthermore the setting makes perfect use of the lego star wars setting by merging the master builder concept from the lego movie with the concept of the force. The result is quite unlike everything else in the star wars franchise and a breath of fresh air. using the force to build instead of throwing stuff around allows for a lot more creativity on the part of the writers.
Finally, while a few people might lament the status of the show as non canon to the broader Disney Star wars franchise i must say that this works to the show's advantage. It has far more liberty in its storytelling by being in its own canon.
LEGO Star Wars shows have always been popular in our house.... these Emperor & Darth Vader are always worthy of some belly laughs!
The Freemakers are great! Some favourite characters pop in from time-to-time as well!
Great run-through storylines, wonderful animation and great characters!
If you haven't already - watch it now!
(Season 2 was just released on DVD, hoping Blu-ray will be soon, will be absurd if it is only DVD!
LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures gets it right by offering a single, continuous storyline that unfolds across its episodes, ideal for both loyal Star Wars buffs and younger viewers. The Freemaker family-Rowan, Kordi, and Zander-are caught in an adventure blending humor, action, and references to the wider Star Wars lore while exploring their connection to the Force and battling the Empire. The animation is colorful and lively, carrying a nice pace and delivering laughs for all ages.
However, the tone can feel a bit watered-down: although narratively solid, the script doesn't dive deeply into secondary characters and the central conflict ends up being somewhat predictable . It's a pleasant, lightweight watch, but lacks the depth sought by more mature or demanding audiences. In short, a cheerful family-friendly pick with a coherent premise and charm, but one that doesn't surprise.

My kids love this show!!! Mondays have become one of their favorite days of the week, since I let them watch this show just before bedtime. They think the Roger droid is hilarious. Also it gives them ideas of ships they want to build with their Lego bricks. Being a Star Wars fan myself, I tried to introduce the Clone Wars animated series to them, but they found it to be too serious and boring. The Rebels animated series is a little more light-hearted, but only my oldest child finds it interesting. On the other hand, the Freemaker Adventures appeals to all 3 of my children, ages 8, 6, and 2. I thought my kids might like Freemaker since they like the Droid Tales and also the Lego Star Wars video game saga. We can't wait for the next season of Freemaker to come out!
A nice entertaining little series, but where is the Region 4 DVD release for season 2? :-(
Le saviez-vous
- AnecdotesSeason one begins shortly after the destruction of the first death star at the end of the original La guerre des étoiles (1977) as Palpatine and Vader discuss building a second one. It features the evacuation of Bespin as seen in La guerre des étoiles V: L'empire contre-attaque (1980) and shows it's aftermath. When the Freemakers visit Tatooine, Jabba's men are seen carting around Han's Carbonite-frozen body wherever they go. The season ends as the Rebel Alliance is gathering it's forces in preparation of the attack on the second Death Star in La guerre des étoiles VI: Le retour du jedi (1983).
