I'm a little shocked at how seriously people are taking a Hallmark movie. Lighten up people! This is supposed to be an easy to watch family romcom. It's not supposed to be Schindler's List. April Bowlby is fun to watch as always and I have actually visited The Wigwam resort in Phoenix, so that was a fun bit of nostalgia.
Thomas Beaudoin is hotter than the gates of hell and also blazes equally with pure charisma. He is proficient at radiating decency and simple humanity, in quiet, compelling ways. That's why a movie where a lead female rejects Thomas Beaudoin, choosing instead to literally chase after her ex (a witless, TV-obsessed wad of damp Cheeto dust who treated her like an afterthought for ten years) is a movie outside the limits of human understanding. The lead character is alleged to be a doctor, but comes off like an escaped mental patient masquerading as a doctor. The actress has obviously been directed to dial the "clumsy but endearing romcom girl" routine up to nuclear-maximum; thus, when she is not "stumbling" over her suitcase and knocking over plants (the actress fake-stumbles with determination, aiming for the plant), she over-widens her eyes to such a degree that they seem to freeze in that position, just as your mother always warned would happen when you made extremely grotesque faces. Each and every one of the supporting roles is played with relentless, caffeinated mugging in lieu of acting. All the while, Beaudoin is standing around looking and acting like an actual human being (albeit the best looking one of all), radically out of place in this braying freak show. GET THIS MAN BACK IN A QUALITY ROMCOM. Someone needs to answer for this.
Do directors have any sense? Are they employing teenagers to do the background sounds? This is NOT a Walt Disney Animation where one needs sounds because no one actually speaks in the movie! I felt like I was watching Fantasia! I can hardly make out the voices of the actors due to the racket of the sound track which really should be faint and in the background! This feature is pretty bad, but it's not the only movie which has overbearing background "music"! When one watches movies made in the 50s, 60s, 70s even 80s at least we can hear the spoken words! Now if not for the "realistic" traffic noises in a street/outdoor scene where there is indistinguishable dialogue, the majority of the presentation is drowned in excessively loud music! OK, I am not a young kid with perfect hearing, but I am not deaf! As for the movie, very predictable.
Wow..: the amount of offense taken by a stupid movie is amazing. Y'all are ridiculous. Numerous inquiries as to how a doctor could ever see anything in a musician are absolutely hilarious... Such elitist nonsense. It seems like a lot of people are offended by the idea that people who have different professions or lifestyles could possibly be compatible or attracted to one another. First of all, this is a stupid movie and it's not meant to be taken seriously. Secondly, those things are actually not all that far-fetched as in real life People who have real connections can easily get past things like that. What I'm seeing here are a bunch of people who have absolutely no real life experience or reference points regarding those sort of lifestyles therefore can possibly understand how someone could find compatibility with someone who doesn't make as much money as them , sounds like your fantasies of what it's like to be something more than what you are the reality of what it's like to actually live that way. In any case, none of this is supposed to be taken seriously and all. I'm seeing here are a bunch of unrealistic , desperate women who believe in fairytales and are unhappy with their real lives so much so that ridiculous, romantic comedies, that don't adhere to their unrealistic ideas about actual human relations!
I knew immediately when I heard the lead female begin her speech, that this movie was going to be hilarious. Since this was a lifetime/abc familyish movie, I didn't have much hope that it was going to be great. But what it lacked in script and some dialogue it made up for in slapstick humor. Some may get it others may not.
The acting was sub-par in a lot of places but good in others. What it got wrong made all the things it got right stand out more. The cast, for what they were did their jobs. The script, well it could have been better. The dialogue was the funniest part for me. Maybe I have a different sense of humor than most but this movie is right up there with the campy fun movies who poke fun at romance.
Take it for what it is, not what it wasn't.
6/10 for me.
