Wretched Things

The three films were all exercises in objectification, the first two of the protagonist and the third, longest vignette of the protagonists "victims".

I didn't see any desire in the first film of lust for fame. To me the model was hesitant and reluctant but being jollied along by the irritatingly camp and pushy photographer. When he got home, he seemed despondent and ashamed rather than gloating that he'd made it. Seeing his photo spread didn't make him happy either. He had realised that he was just an object.

The same themes ran through the second film. The webcam worker made himself an object of desire for cash but didn't read the small print. He realised what he had done too late.

In the third film, a closeted guy pretends to be straight while mistreating and loathing his sexual partners by regarding them as objects of scorn. He insults them and degrades and objectifies them, but this is what some of them seek. However, at the conclusion, despite keeping up appearances, he reveals his own deepest desires and longings too.

The three films treat the question in the same way inasmuch as there is an explicit or implied theme of the protagonists being objectified or doing so themselves but arriving at a point where they show their vulnerabilities. It's up to us to wonder if they carry on, hardened by their experiences or choose another path.
