Set within the nostalgic decade of the 80's, though "little" be in the title, this film is mighty! Made me laugh, cry, and I never stopped rooting for the characters. A truly heart-warming, dynamic, real, and relatable story. So happy to see such a unique female-driven narrative like this told with such conviction. Perhaps a TV series could be in the works? We need more of Little Con Lili!
This short film is such a gem! I watched it at the HBO Women in Comedy Festival and I absolutely loved it. It was a sweet, funny and relatable story. The main character was very endearing. The world that was created felt both nostalgic of a bygone era, and magical at the same time. I hope this gets made into a feature. It left me wanting to know more about these characters. Really liked the directing. The pacing was slow and steady in the beginning which helped create a magical relaxing environment which was then juxtaposed when the mother comes home and everything happens very fast. Really nice witty to convey the emotions of the characters through the pacing. Loved the world!Really witty of the director to convey the emotions of the main character through the pacing. Loved the world! Loved the music! Great way to showcase Air Supply within this harsh, 80s, yet whimsical environment"
I loved LITTLE CON LILI. It reminded me of myself growing up. It was both nostalgic, sweet and funny. The acting was strong. Music was fab. Directing was nicely done. There was great attention to detail. A feel-good sweet story that everyone can relate to.
I watched Little Con Lili at the Women in Comedy Festival presented by HBO this past May. It was one of 10-15 shorts that played and it was my absolute favorite! It also won the NBC Best in Fest award, so it was a favorite all around. It was so cool. As other reviewers have said, the characters are endearing. The main character is so sweet you just want to go on this journey with her. It reminded me of my own experience as a child. The film made me feel a bitter sweet nostalgia for my own childhood. The young girl playing the role of Lili was phenomenal. Really talented actress. I liked the production design and the costumes too. It was all very 1980s working class but without being "too 80s hip" it was all just right which is what made it feel so real. Great directing as well. I also really liked the contrast between the young girl's carefree after-school world with the mother's real life- working class problems. I thought the editing was nicely done. LOVED LOVED LOVED the way music was used in the short. And the credits were fabulous, they were like a nice dessert to a lovely meal! This short left me feeling good after watching it. Made me feel good about the essence of childhood, of being both naïve, and quick witted. Really sweet film. Well made!
I recently caught this little gem on HBO Max and so glad that I did! Lili's mischievous ways remind me of my Gen X childhood when my little sister and I would go unsupervised for hours after school like so many latchkey kids. Like us, Lili has plans of her own for how she wants to spend her afternoon which doesn't include doing her homework. Gabriela Garcia Medina captures the warmth, spirit and truth of an era when kids learned about life from having real free time.
