One Red Nose Day and a Wedding

We catch up to most of the "Four Weddings and a Funeral" characters in this nostalgic short. The wedding of Charles & Carrie's daughter to the daughter of Fiona may be done for politically correct reasons, but it's still great to see the old cast, even David (David Bower) who has not been on-screen in a while.

The jokes are mostly culled from the movie, so they are mostly hit or miss. Still, it was delightful to see Tom (James Fleet) get to do one of Charles' best bits from the film.

I didn't expect a laugh riot, so this short given it's limited production time is pretty much what I expected. Even if the Richard Curtis and Mike Newell return to their respective roles of writer and director.

One bit of disappointment is that Simon Callow does not make an appearance. Sure, Garreth died in the original film, but this type of short should've allowed for the actor to return even in another role. Oh well. It's still enjoyable, if not quite hilarious fun.

25 years after the release of Four Weddings and a Funeral. Here is the underwhelming mini sequel for Comic Relief.

Charles (Hugh Grant) is getting ready for his daughter Miranda's (Lily James) wedding to best friend and daughter of Fiona (Kristin Scott Thomas), Faith (Alicia Vikander.)

Father Gerald (Rowan Atkinson) is inarticulately presiding his first same sex wedding. A lot of the characters from the first film make appearances with an acknowledgement to two characters that passed on. Even a very bad singer returns from the first movie, this time with Sam Smith.

This should had been a nostalgic frothy fun short. The characters are older and greyer, Carrie (Andie MacDowell) revisits her infamous line of not noticing it was raining with a twist. It was less of surprise that it would be a same sex wedding. However the whole thing was 'look we got most of the cast back together again for Comic Relief.' It had nostalgia but I did not feel the love.

It was wonderful to see nearly the entire cast of Four Weddings and a Funeral back together again. The only thing that would have made this perfect was finding a way to work in Simon Callow.

After Richard Curtis created a mini sequel of 'Love Actually' a couple of years ago it was only a matter of time before he repeated the trick with one of his other films.

So, here we go, a mini 'Four Weddings' sequel, that again, isn't that bad.

I liked all involved, I thought they gave good performances, and to see Hugh Grant acting out Richard Curtis' words is always a joy.

I look forward to the inevitable 'Notting Hill' mini sequel that's sure to follow in two years time.

Pointless, but undeniably sweet.

It's cool to see the majority of the faces from the 1994 original return for this 'One Red Nose Day and a Wedding' short, especially Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson. Lily James, meanwhile, makes for a nice addition. There are a few decent callbacks in there, also.
