Billy Bevan is trying to write the next episode of his thrilling motion picture serial when Edgar Kennedy makes him swallow a stolen, priceless watch to hide it from detectives who have just come aboard ship. With that and other goings-on, who can think of interesting plot turns?
It's a Mack Sennett comedy, with a lot of old-time comics around: not only Bevan and Kennedy, but Bud Jamison, Marvin Loback, Heinie Conklin and Bobby Dunn, along with the usual pretty girls: Marjorie Kane and Monaei Lindley. It's got lots of gags, but in their vast number, they step on each other, as if the film makers were afraid that none of them would get a big, sustained laugh, and so added more and more, to little effect.
It's a problem that a lot of Sennett's sound comedies suffered from. No one had produced more silent comedies in great number and belly laughs, but it seems as if the addition of sound to the mix had ruined his writers' timing. The general decline of movie attendance wasn't helping him and the other independent comedy shorts producers.
