Only contract characters appear in the opening. The opening is rather expensive to edit, so don't expect new characters to appear right away or for departed characters to disappear right away.

Soap operas choose to age children for storyline purposes. One day a child could be 10 and the next day they could be 17. It's called Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome (SORAS). They do this very frequently so it shouldn't come as too much of a shock and it's just business as usual on a soap opera.

Here's some ideas of how old the kids/teens should be -- this is the year they were born:

General Hospital Happenings -- This is a popular site that has been around for 10 years. Accurate spoilers with pictures of upcoming episodes. Interesting, but separate, rumor page. Wubs -- This site is normally pretty accurate, and if they post a spoiler that doesn't happen, they correct themselves and give an explanation as to why the spoiler did not happen. http://www.wubs.net

From 1994-2001, General Hospital dedicated an episode to the fight against AIDS with the Nurses Ball. After 2001, they stopped producing the Nurses Ball because it was too hard to have the Nurses Ball on General Hospital and Port Charles at the same time. After Port Charles was cancelled, the Nurses Ball did not return.
