This was the epitome of low brow tabloid "news" programs. It seemed to give viewers what they wanted: escapism, sex, scandals, sensationalism, sex, gossip, spectacles, sex, outrageousness, fluff, sex, innuendo, confrontations, sex, and... well... you get the idea.
Anchors Povich and O'Boyle tried to look as respectable and dignified as true news anchors should be, but the stories obviously were designed solely as entertainment for people who thought true newscasts or news programs involving serious and informative investigations and subject matter were 'boring'. Many in its audience no doubt felt this was all they needed in order to know what was happening in the world.
I can't knock it too much, however, because the show stayed on the air for several seasons - meaning there sadly was a market for such programming and the United States' overall intelligence obviously was low enough to want to watch such mindless trash.
