The Ernest Green Story

The integration of Central High School in Little Rock was a nightmare for the brave students who broke the color barrier.

In this earnest (no pun intended) film, young people can get a sense of the courage of teenagers in extraordinary circumstances. The performances are first rate and even young viewers will understand the story.

Based on a true story, The Ernest Green Story talks about the time when blacks and whites were separated from different schools. Now, lots and lots of blacks decide to go to a white school and one of the black kids is Ernest Green. One the first day, already rules strictly for blacks have been made. Every single teacher blames every little accident possible on the black kids, mostly on Ernest. Ernest is the kind of kid who tries really hard to make it to college. He never jokes around and is normal like everyone else. Well, except for the white kids. They probably don't want him to be normal like everyone else.

An IMPORTANT, and HONEST look at the true story behind the Little Rock Central High's Racial Nightmare in 1957. This STIRRING and INSPIRING film tells of the first nine colored students who enrolled in the ALL-WHITE school, and forced to stand up against hatered, the National Guard, and the Government. The strength of these nine students will inspire you and cause you to stand up and cheer, and then cause you to cry at the misfortunes they had to suffer to tear down the racial walls. This Brilliant cast will capture your hearts, and leave you feeling good. A MUST-SEE for EVERYONE! (Note: My mother was a student during this time, and has shared first-hand stories with me about this historical event. This movie has accurately portrayed events just as she remembered them). Morris Chestnut is out-standing in the role of Ernest Green, along with the other actors who portray his classmates.

The summary says it all! It is only sad that some people in the South today STILL actually hate African Americans. Hopefully this will eventually be bred out of people, and people will be seen for WHO they are, not WHAT they are (with regards to the color of their skin).

Surely the struggle was/is vindicated by the success enjoyed by people who have fought hard for their rights, such as Ernest Green.

This movie skips quite a bit of detail, but for a taste of history, it is quite accurate whilst still being entertaining.

I recommend this movie to anyone interested in American history and the struggle between racism and humanity.
