The only thing wrong with "Catwalk" is its cliff-hanger ending, giving this first half of what proves to be a two-part feature a shaggy-dog aspect. In a very fine performance by perhaps the best Adult Cinema actress of her generation, Jeanna Fine keeps us hanging for an hour and a half with her tape-recorded (into a Sony Walkman, yet) confession to one mysterious Derek (a character who never appears), but leaves the story hanging at the end. I haven't located the sequel on DVD, unfortunately, to complete the tale.
Oddly, there is zero catwalk action in this movie, as we see the models posing and looking mighty fine in costumes by Catherine St. Clare (as well as some latex fashions, this being porn after all. Best of all is a series of very cleverly and artfully done magazine advertisements satirizing many big-name outifits like Estee Lauder, an attention to detail usually missing from Adult content.
With Sharon Kane well-cast as the mean old slave-driver, a bevy of interesting beauties toil alongside Jeanna to create the parallel world of porn talent masquerading as mainstream models. Both Roxanne Hall and Rebecca Lord are attractive enough to pass, and not surprisingly both bring a Euro porn tradition to bear on anal sex and in Hall's case d.p. content, with nary a condom in sight.
The suspense of the blackmail plot (a note demands $50,000 or else) is underwhelming in this edition, though hopefully will flower in the sequel. Fine's very fine performance is reason enough to watch.
Archive footage from some '80s VHS release is used to present an incriminating sex tape featuring Jeanna that could end her modeling career. It features Fine during her blonde, flat-chested career phase, brilliantly deep-throating that forgotten Black star Field Marshal Bradley, porn's original who begot (via imitation) mainstream's Samuel Jackson.
