Invisible Thread

A very good short starring Penn and Teller and featuring the magic trick that saved the world. Vaguely amusing, vaguely bizarre but definitely entertaining. I only wish that I had a copy of it. I haven't seen it in years, but it left enough of an impression on me that I still think about it from time to time.

A wonderfully captivating short movie that is worth watching, and re-watching. This movie is easily on my top ten list of movies that I recommend to other people as a MUST SEE. It is also my favorite Political Satire ranking above such great movies as the dark comedy, "The Ruling Class." Penn & Teller, Purveyors of fine magic tricks are thrust into the world of political paranoia when Teller is called upon to help save the world from certain doom. It is the kind of comedy that tickles the funny-bone while pulling at the strings of reason (no pun intended). Rent, Buy or Borrow this film and watch it. You will be happy that you did.

I saw this once upon release or shortly thereafter...possibly on Cinemax. At the time, I was somewhat underwhelmed as I was looking for engaging quick moving P&T patter, jokes, and illusions.

Instead, this was an early example of P&T moving beyond their on-stage presentation and tackling a more general conceptual deep dive to point viewers to a truth only seen when the curtain is pulled back. It is an expansion of their "behind the scenes" magician reveals applied to real world subjects.

Although fictional in this case, this expansion of their sensibilities outside magic would be more finely crafted by later films like "The Aristocrats" and "Tim's Vermeer".

The underlining "message" of this short TV production has crossed my mind hundreds of times when facing unabashed B. S., the absurdity of life, societies, political views, and other individuals, Instead of responding in frustration, anger, annoyance, etc. I, instead, chuckle to myself and think, "Only our species could possibly be this amazingly unique."
