The Flirt

I had to add the credits (mostly fake however) to this IMDb listing that only had Trixie Tyler displayed. It's a quite embarrassing spoof of MST3K, applying that show's formula to dismantling a hardcore porn movie, with Trixie as the acerbic host. It's challenging to sit through.

A truly inept porn video titled "The Flirt", variously credited on screen as directed by producer Charles Zolle or star Max Ren, is watched by Trixie and her co-host, an ugly bird (with 4 eyes) hand puppet named Mr. Winkie, who comment on the action. They leave during the explicit sex footage that comprises most of the movie, so as not to block off with their imitation silhouettes in the audience (an MST3K ripoff device) what the fans want to see.

With wobbly camera, cheap sets and a mix of pro and amateur talent, the underlying movie "The Flirt" was obviously unreleasable (I foolishly still have standards!) crap, so a wraparound starring Trixie and her puppet friend was made (credited to director Henry Bosco) as a TV show titled "Sex Science Theatre 6969" to sort of save the day.

"The Flirt" concerns a pair of sisters, flop, would-be starlets Christina Sea and Lexus Dee, who work for Lee Caroll. At least Christina has a successful casting couch with Lee that seems to win her the job. Jerry Butler is in the cast doing a stupid Jerry Lewis "funny" voice (the gimmick that normally is used by Jonathan Morgan) and his performance is a disaster. Not only is his acting ridiculous, but when it comes time for his money shot, he does the usual fake groaning but fails to deliver, just pretending to.

We listen to Trixie and her puppet pal make endless derisive remarks, with script credited to "Oswald Dikwad". This frustrated porn writer has the audacity to make endless knowing references to (naming a few): Kierkegaard, Mrs. Dan Quayle (Marilyn), Moe Howard and the Three Stooges -mentioning Butler's resemblance to Shemp (not), Mel Gibson, Mel Tillis and Karen Carpenter (a cheap shot directed at the "Flirt" heroine's anorexic appearance). None of it is funny, and for inexplicable reasons they frequently say nasty things about Butler.

The end credits are incredibly phony, childish attempts at humor, and overlap markedly with those for "Backdoor to Russia". They run four minutes, merely to pad the show's running time.
