The series was created by Masami Kurumada and there is twenty eight volumes in the series, it ran from January 1, 1986 to December 12, 1990 in Japan.
Knights of the Zodiac and Saint Seiya are the same series, however there are differences which will be explained:
The series was originally licensed by DIC Entertainment and was renamed to Knights of the Zodiac, which was heavily censored and involved cutting scenes that were too violent, adding new digital scenes that were not in the Japanese original, changing the opening and ending theme songs, changing the background music, re writing the scripts, and censoring blood and recoloring it to either blue or green and changing the names of several characters.
DIC Entertainment was only able to dub the first 32 episodes into English (with ADV Films releasing the series on DVD), however ADV Films licensed the first 60 episodes uncut with a new English dub and kept the original music and scripts were closer to the Japanese versions. ADV Films had expressed interest in finishing the series uncut but they went defunct in 2009.
