Endgame in Ireland

Making peace after a terrorist campaign is always going to be hard. Both sides may consider the other to have committed unforgiveable wrongs; but unless they talk, the violence will continue. The road to harmony in Northern Ireland still has a long way to go, but the Good Friday agreement was a huge step forward; and this documentary, made with the full and frank involvement of all sides in the negotiations, is a very detailed document of how it came to be signed. Watching it 20 years later, it feels somewhat dated as a piece of television, if only because of its authoratitive voiceover, delivered in impeccible received pronounciation, a style that has gone completely out of fashion. But you'll rarely see a more comprehensive account of political events, and few events in the recent history of Great Britain and Ireland were as significant as these.
