Vampire hunter and priest, Father Uffizi (Jason Scott Lee), attempts to locate Dracula's body after his charred remains are taken to a New Orleans morgue. However, two medical students -- Elizabeth 'Liz' Blaine (Diane Neal) and Luke (Jason London) -- notice features suggesting it might be the body of a vampire. They switch the body with another and secret it to the abandoned home of Professor Lowell (Craig Sheffer), where they revive and research the body in an attempt to find the vampire's essence and make from it a vaccine that can be used to cure diseased cells.

Dracula II: Ascension is the sequel to Dracula 2000 (2000) (2000). Both movies are based on stories and screenplays written by American film-maker Joel Soisson and Canadian film-maker Patrick Lussier, who also directed the movie. Dracula II: Ascension was followed by Dracula: L'Héritage (2005) (2005).

A matter of hours. At the end of Dracula 2000, Dracula (Gerard Butler) was left hanging from the roof of a church, and his body exploded into flames as the sun came up. Ascension picks up later the same day when his crispy body arrives at the morgue for autopsy.

At the end of Dracula 2000, Mary Van Helsing (Justine Waddell) claims to be the keeper of Dracula's remains. Yet Dracula II starts with Dracula's body being wheeled into the morgue. In the DVD commentary for the second movie, it's explained that Mary is actually guarding the wrong body. Liz and Luke had switched the bodies, substituting the charred remains of another man for those of Dracula before Mary showed up to claim him.

Not quite. At the beginning of the movie, he is shown tracking down two female vampires in the Czech Republic. Just before he beheads them, one of the vampires grazes his neck with her fangs. Apparently, this was enough to give him some vampiric tendencies, such as quick healing, but he is able to keep himself from turning by frying himself in the sun every morning.

Father Uffizi tells Luke to take Liz out into the sun, but Liz is too far gone and breaks free, refusing to step into the sun. In an attempt to kill the now revived Dracula (Stephen Billington), Uffizi smashes all the windows to let in the sunlight. He wraps his whip around Dracula's neck and begins to recite the last rites. Just as Uffizi is just about to behead him, Dracula forces upon him a vision of Christ, blinding Uffizi for a moment. In that moment, Liz shoots Uffizi. As Dracula escapes with Liz, Uffizi promises, "I'll find you." Dracula replies, "I'm counting on it."
