New Tricks is a British crime comedy drama series which chronicles UCOS (Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad) a division of the Metropolitan Police Service. UCOS reopens and reinvestigates unsolved police cases.
The UCOS team are grumpy retired police officers. The members of the UCOS team are Brian Lane (Alun Armstrong), an Ex-Detective Inspector whom is mentally unstable, a recovering alcoholic and a tosser. Jack Halford (James Bolam) an Ex-Detective Chief Superintendent and a widower. Gerry Standing (Dennis Waterman) an Ex-Detective Sargeant whom is the team's grumpiest member and is known for his reputation as a gambler and a womanizer and Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman) whom a Detective Superintendent and the only non retired police officer on the UCOS team and is their boss and is haunted by the suicide of her father when she was 14.
