Since I was 5 until nowadays - I'm more than 20 years old -, Monica and her friends were among the best things in universe. Mauricio Sousa, their creator, still publishes their comic magazines and Cascao, a very naughty boy who has afraid of water, deserves to be considered the finest expression of a Brazilian Boy - no, we are not all unclean like him, I mean, we are like him because such things like his kindness and preference for simple pleasures like play "bafo" and soccer in the end of the afternoons. But although Monica's group had appeared in several pictures - most of them presenting short stories -, A PRINCESA E O ROBO ("The Princess and the Robot") remains the best, in cinematic terms. The story begins when a little robot from the Big Carrot's planet arrives on Earth and meets Monica, Cebolinha, Cascao, Magali and Anjinho. The lovely robot is condemned to find a heart in a far planet, in order to marry Princess Mimi. Otherwise she's threaten to accept the evil Lord Big Bunny as her husband. The group decides to help the robot, in a journey through the universe. Produced in 1983, the movie has E.T. and STAR WARS as inspirations, but many Brazilian habits can be recognized by those who, likes me, admires heartwarming Souza's work. Every time I saw this, I'm sure that my childhood were remarked by an outstanding icon.
