Prom Night is a "remake" of Le bal de l'horreur (1980) (1980), although director Nelson McCormick admits that the only similarity between the two movies is the title. For release in theatres Prom Night—the more or less remake of the original Le bal de l'horreur (1980) from 1980—it got a PG-13 rating. On home video release (e.g. DVD), an Unrated version of this movie was published as well but the differences between both versions are very little. The Unrated versions runs approximately 85 seconds longer and features some more violent scenes that aren't that hard for a horror movie.
