I actually saw this production on stage before it was a film. I kind of liked the production of it better as a stage performance. The use of lighting and creativity in the set design was so impressive on the stage. I think it loses a little of that on the screen.
The story itself, though, is one you've always heard whispered about in Hollywood. One of the untold, but certainly not secret, truths about Hollywood kids. The exploitation of these kids not just by the business, but often by their own parents and people they're supposed to be able trust, people meant to protect them. It's horrible, really. This film does a good job of telling the truth of the story - showing the gritty through the glam.

The staging by Michael Leoni is impeccable and superbly mastered. The "theatrical" setting, the light, the soundtrack, music by Youngblood and the rhythm of the editing with constantly simultaneous scenes are perfect, and bring a dimension of chaos that plays out for the characters and for Jason, admirably well interpreted by everyone. Based on the omnipresent abuse and remorse of the past that he lives in synchronization in his mind and on stage between adolescence and the adult of today, Jason confronts his demons by trying to control all that escapes him, and to attempt to warn the younger actors of the threat that threatens .... and to exonerate himself in order to rebuild himself.
This movie was a stage play that was so creatively shot, that alone is reason enough to see this film. Add in the incredibly powerful and important message and great acting makes this a must see indie film.

The blend of different artistic mediums in this production is nothing short of remarkable. The way the director has seamlessly integrated elements of film and theater creates a unique and captivating experience that stands out in a crowded field. This innovative approach is a testament to the director's visionary talent and deep understanding of both art forms.
From the moment the show begins, it's clear that the directing is both meticulous and inspired. Every scene flows with a deliberate pace that keeps the audience engaged and invested in the story. The pacing is such that it builds suspense and emotional depth without losing momentum. This careful balance between speed and substance is a hallmark of great storytelling, and it's executed flawlessly here. The acting across the board is equally impressive. The entire cast delivers performances that are not only compelling but also deeply nuanced. Each actor brings their character to life with authenticity and depth, drawing the audience into the emotional core of the narrative. It's evident that a great deal of thought and effort went into character development and casting, and this dedication pays off in the form of performances that are both memorable and impactful. One of the most striking aspects of this production is the story itself. It addresses themes and issues that are incredibly important and timely. The narrative isn't just entertaining; it also serves as a vehicle for raising awareness and sparking conversation about critical topics. This commitment to storytelling that matters adds an extra layer of significance to the work, making it not just a show to watch but an experience to reflect upon. Michael Leoni, the creative force behind this production, clearly stands out as a true visionary. His ability to merge the dynamic elements of filmmaking with the rich, emotive qualities of theater speaks to his exceptional skill and passion for the craft. It's apparent that Leoni is not just directing but also deeply invested in the stories he chooses to tell. His enthusiasm and dedication are reflected in every aspect of the production, from the staging and cinematography to the performances and narrative structure. Leoni's approach to blending film and theater is particularly noteworthy. He manages to harness the strengths of both mediums to create something that feels fresh and innovative. The use of cinematic techniques enhances the visual storytelling, while the theatrical elements bring a level of intimacy and immediacy that is often missing in purely filmic presentations. This fusion allows for a richer, more immersive experience, making the audience feel as though they are both part of the story and observing it from a distance. It's clear that Leoni is not just a director but also a passionate storyteller who understands the power of his medium. His work reflects a deep appreciation for the art of filmmaking and theater, and he successfully leverages the best aspects of both to create a production that is both engaging and thought-provoking. For anyone who values innovative storytelling and strong artistic direction, Leoni's work is a must-see. Given the exceptional quality of this production, it's no surprise that it has left a lasting impression. The combination of a well-crafted story, impressive acting, and visionary directing makes it a standout piece. It's the kind of work that not only entertains but also inspires and provokes thought, demonstrating the profound impact that creative storytelling can have. In conclusion, this production is a testament to the power of blending different artistic mediums to create something truly special. Michael Leoni's vision and execution are exemplary, and the result is a production that is both captivating and meaningful. I am eagerly looking forward to exploring more of Leoni's work, as it is clear that he has a unique ability to push the boundaries of traditional storytelling and deliver performances that are both groundbreaking and deeply resonant.

I actually really liked this one and there's nothing fake about me or my opinion. Especially resonates if you ever lived in LA. Different Strokes for different folks.
