Why would they cancel this show?

Over the course of the last 10 years, mainstream tv has really gone down the shoot, and despite some other fun little shows that were later canceled as well (like Lucifer), it is truly dumbfounding to me how a show as funny as this one could get cancelled. Maybe the cast isn't cheap, and they had to cut budgets, but there is seriously no better show on a mainstream channel today as good as this one, and shame on NBC for initially cancelling it. I'm glad the show found a home on Peacock, and I hope it will be able to live on for at least a couple more seasons after this one.

Anecdotes
The return of the show after its cancellation on NBC. Fans on social media, including some of the cast members, fought for a renewal. NBC answered and green lit a third season for the show on NBC's streaming service, Peacock for a 2020 release. NBC had stayed that the show was saved by the streaming views of the show over the actual aired on tv views which led to the show being renewed on its streaming platform instead.
