This was a fun indie horror camp slasher. Acting was good and had some good laugh out loud moments. Definitely felt they did a good job bringing back that 80's nostalgia. Dave Sheridan was hysterical. Had a good twist. Definitely not going to win any awards but I don't think that's what they were going for. If you like indie horror films set a camp. I definitely think it's worth a watch. Run time was a little long but it doesn't feel like it takes forever to get the story going either.
I rounded it up to a four, cause it's probably a 3.5 in my opinion. Which is low for a slasher for me. It's low budget and what you'd expect for this type of movie. Obviously someone on the crew got a new drone for Christmas! I did laugh at the Cop interrogation scene for some dumb reason, lots of 80s references for old dudes like me. But why on earth was this over 2 hours? Why? Was this directed by Kevin Costner? Someone should cut this down to about 80 minutes and it would have been way better! So much unnecessary filler! A few too many throwbacks / references to Sleepaway Camp but I guess with the star of that in this that makes sense to me. For Camp Slasher fans only!
It is a fun Mashup of 80s slasher loveletter and goofy satire of the genre. It wears its worship of the golden age of slashers on its sleeve while not being afraid to poke fun at the trappings of the genre. True horror geeks, like myself, will love the tons of slasher movie Easter eggs. Everyone involved seems like they had a blast. It doesn't take itself seriously and neither should you. Grab some beers and strap yourself in.
I WANT to like this, but I don't know. I do like it... sort of?
On the one hand... it's an 80's slasher homage which automatically gives it some merit. The sets and wardrobe were great. The cast, I can't imagine how they found them, did an excellent job of capturing that 80's tone! For real, that's a hard part to emulate. Their attitudes, mannerisms, and tones were pitch perfect. They deserve credit for this. Bravo!
The jokes were brutal, totally politically incorrect, and funny. I appreciate this most. The gore effects were pretty decent and served well enough. The girls were cute and eager to show their assets which was a bonus.
On the other hand... altogether as a movie it felt sort of empty. It dragged a bit or something. It takes long to get going and when it does not much happens. The killer was kind of lame and generic. He needed more character or something unique.
One other nitpick, a strange complaint that I had... everyone had tattoos everywhere. Nobody had tattoos like that in the 80's. It kind of breaks the theme, reminding you that this was very much made recently when they worked so hard to perfectly capture the past. Stupid, but it did stand out to me.
A honest effort that deserves 6 stars at least but I can't see giving it more. It's worth a watch.

Was suggested it today and It took me a long time to finish. The movie paid a lot of homage to classic camp slashers like Friday the thirteenth and Sleepaway camp but the execution as poor. Camera work was not bad and a couple of the death scenes were shot really well to make up for the lack of budget to pull a large scale death off but thats really where it ends. Not a single character is likable and you really dont have any connection to them at all. For someones first movie I do see a lot of promise but I think more direction needs to be given to the actors. Everything felt forced and not even remotely organic. Given a a more experienced cast I would watch the directors work again.
